/Re-reading and drawing The Lord of the Rings/
The invitation
In hope that no one is going to read this, I’ll indulge in telling my stories the only proper way – the ent way, so you’ve been warned.
First time I picked a Tolkien book of a library shelf it was 80’s and it was, you would never guess, the Two Towers. The Fellowship was out, borrowed, some sllloooow spellleeeer was reading it. I gave Towers a flip, started reading the first page. Never heard anything of it and the cover wasn’t really screaming ‘a fantasy masterpiece!’ at me. Oh boi was I up for surprise…
That afternoon, I got mesmerized, hit, I’ve read Two towers in one sitting, got my head completelly blown off, run early in the morning to get the Return of the King and after I swallowed that, endless waiting for the Fellowship to be returned to library begun: I prayed and cursed and walk the circle, after just couple of days, I just had to peek my head trough the door and librarian lady would yell ‘Not yet!’
After what felt as eternity of waiting, it was returned, the Fellowship, my precious. O happy day. What can I say? I’ve read the whole trilogy few times in a row and at least 15 times in next few years. It was back in the school days and the summers were endless.
It was almost 25 years since I’ve last read the LOTR books. I’ve realised that just the other day and that realisation feels a bit strange. The years just flew away.
My plan is to read it again and this time, I’m going to paint and draw as I go. The idea feels excitting and chalenging. I’m inviting you to join me. From Hobbiton to Mordor and back…
